Résumé

This paper is a contribution to the anthropological body of knowledge on the power of Vodun. It aims to examine, from a linguistic point of view, how the power of Vodun is evoked and explained in Ben Weilow’s song entitled ’Vodun Life Spirit’. In that attempt, the study employs the theory of transitivity, and qualitative and quantitative research methods. The analysis of the transitivity features in the aforementioned oral text exudes a preponderance of material and relational processes over the other process-types. It is inferred that (i) as a spiritual power, Vodun exerts actions on human beings, and (ii) a metaphysical relationship of characterization and identification is set between human beings and Vodun
