Résumé

This study investigates the teaching of lexical items to Form I students of Lycée Pascal Yoadoumnadji of Doba and Lycée Bernard Dikwa Garandi of Doba 1 in Chad. The population of this work is made up of 355 participants. Data were collected through questionnaire and observations. The results of this investigation revealed that teachers did not apply all the stages recommended in the teaching of vocabulary. Additionally, instead of using context clues like real objects, they listed words and made use of French to introduce items planned for teaching. The researchers also noticed that teachers have pronunciation problem. As solution, the training of English language teachers in the field of vocabulary teaching is recommended
